Etymology
From Contraction of ekíkún, compare with Olukumi órókún, Àhàn égú, proposed to be derived from a root Proto-Yoruba *-kṹ (“to kneel”). See Doublet of gún (to stick out), and Doublet of kúnlẹ̀. Equivalent to e- (“nominalizing prefix”) + kíkún (“partial reduplication of kún "to kneel"”), literally “That which kneels”
