From Latin eunūchus, from Ancient Greek εὐνοῦχος (eunoûkhos, “eunuch, castrated animal”), εὐνή (eunḗ, “bed”) + ἔχω (ékhō, “I have, keep, hold”); literally, a chamberlain (see ĉambelano).
