Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish طومالان (domalan, tomalan, that rises as a projection above a flat surface; tumor; truffle), from Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (domalan, tomalan). Cognate with Crimean Tatar domalan, Azerbaijani dombalan. Akin to domalmak (to bulge out) + -an.

Armenian դոմբալա (dombala, truffle) and probably Hungarian tapló (tinder, fungus), Udi телепа (telepa, mushrooms) are Turkic borrowings.
