Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish دفع اول (defʿ ol),[1][2] from Arabic دَفْع (dafʕ), equivalent to def (an act of pushing away, repelling, expelling) + ol (2nd P. Sg. positive imperative of olmak (to be, to become)).[3]
