Etymology

From car + -uță or from Latin carruca, possibly from an original early Romanian result *cărucă and its plural *căruce (altered by influence from the diminutive suffix), or alternatively through a Vulgar Latin root *carrucia, *carrucea. Compare Aromanian cãrutsã. Cf. also Italian carrozza, Friulian caroce, French charrue.
