Probably a non-Sino-Vietnamese reading of Chinese 八足 (“eight feet”, SV: bát túc) or non-Sino-Vietnamese reading of Chinese 百足 (“one hundred feet”, SV: bách túc). The first is more biologically likely but the second is more phonologically sound.
