From Ancient Greek ἀπόθεσις (apóthesis, “a putting back or away”). See apothecary.

  1. (architecture) A place on the south side of the chancel in primitive churches, furnished with shelves, for books, vestments, etc.[1]
  2. A dressing room connected with a public bath.
