Etymology
From Proto-Turkic *āg- (“to rise up”), cognate with Azerbaijani ağmaq (“to outweigh; to rise up”), Gagauz aamaa (“to vaporize”), Turkmen āgmak (“to overflow”), Kazakh ауу (auu), Karakhanid [script needed] (ağmaq, “to rise up, climb”), etc. Relation with ağır is disputable. (Turkmen agyr, Yakut ыар (ıar), Khalaj aɣị̄r)
