Wognum
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as wokgunge in the first half of the 11th century. Etymology uncertain. Potentially derived from an ancient hydronym derived from Proto-Germanic *wag (“moving water, wave”) suffixed with the rare collectivising suffix Old Dutch -ung-. The toponym is unlikely to derive from a personal name. Compare Weiwerd and Wogmeer.
