Swinneflaask
Saterland Frisian
Etymology
From Swien (“pig”) + -e- + Flaask (“meat”). Compare German Schweinefleisch and English swineflesh.
The reduction -ie- > -i- is irregular. Fort (2015) explains this as being a result of the stress, which originally may have lain on the third syllable.
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ˈsvɪnəˌflaːsk/
- Hyphenation: Swin‧ne‧flaask
