  1. (Northern Germany) A slice of bread with a topping, which may include another slice of bread.

Usage notes

Usually used for a dish containing traditional German bread. Variants with sliced loaf bread are usually called Sandwich, variants with a bread roll are usually called Brötchen (“breadroll”).
