Etymology
Attested as Reeuwijksche-Brug in 1847. Compound of Middle Dutch ree (“alignment, boundary line, boundary ditch”) and wyc (“farmstead, village, settlement”) or wyc (“inlet, side channel”). The element brug (“bridge”) was added later to distinguish the settlement from Reeuwijk-Dorp.
