Proto-Yoruboid
Etymology
The consonant /k/ is very present in almost every basic Yoruboid root for male, see Proto-Yoruboid *ɔ́-kʊ̃rɪ̃ (“man”), Proto-Yoruboid *ó-kó (“penis”). Compare with the widespread use of /b/ in roots for female, perhaps these are local Yoruboid innovations coming from roots or verbs relating to male and female characteristics. See Proto-Igboid *ɔ́-kɛ́ɲɛ
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ɔ́.kɔ̄/
