Etymology

From Proto-Turkic *tïg- (to blunt) + *-ïŕ. Oghuz and Kipchak point the stem Proto-Turkic *tïk- (to stuff), whence *tïkïz. *tïgïz would be *tïgïz in Oghuz and *tïwïz in Kipchak.
