Proto-Turkic
Etymology
From Proto-Turkic *tïg- (“to blunt”) + *-ïŕ. Oghuz and Kipchak point the stem Proto-Turkic *tïk- (“to stuff”), whence *tïkïz. *tïgïz would be *tïgïz in Oghuz and *tïwïz in Kipchak.
