Proto-Turkic

Etymology 1

Alternative form of *-tur for polysyllabic verbs.

Suffix

*-t

  1. Suffix creating a transitive verb.
    Synonym: *-tur
  2. Suffix creating a causative verb.
    Synonyms: *-tur, *-ür
Usage notes
  1. Sometimes, although it is not a polysyllabic verb, the form *-t is added, not *-tUr form. But this situation is not productive and is rare. If there is no such a verb, you cannot derive a new verb by adding it to a monosyllabic verb.
*sür- (to smear) + *-t*sürt- (to rub)

Etymology 2

preceding vowel
A / Ï / O / U E / I / Ö / Ü
*-ut *-üt

Suffix

*-t

  1. (Common Turkic?) Suffix creating noun from a verb.
*yan- (to turn back) + *-t*yanut (answer)
