Proto-Turkic

Etymology

Probably comes from an ancient dead verb used to denominate the body's response to a mosquito bite, *čï̄p- + *-gan. Related to Proto-Turkic *čï̄pïn (fly; gad-fly; mosquito), Azerbaijani çibin. Compare also Proto-Mongolic *ciyigan (tumour, albugo). (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)

Noun

*čï̄pgan

  1. furuncle
  2. rash, pimple
