Etymology
Probably from the l-participle *tulъ + *-iti of otherwise obsolete Proto-Balto-Slavic *táuˀtei (“to entangle, to coil”) whence (via another extension) Lithuanian taujóti (“to squash”), Latvian taũjât (“to wander”). Possibly distantly related to Sanskrit तौति (tauti, “to gain power, strength”).
