Inherited from Proto-Balto-Slavic *telktei, from Proto-Indo-European *telk-e-ti ~ *telk-ti, from *telk- (“to thrust, strike”). Cognate with Lithuanian tel̃kti (“assemble for collective assistance”), Old Prussian tlāku (“threshes”, 3 sg.).
