Etymology

From earlier *ord-z-, with -z- by analogy with *bez-, *vъz- and *jьz-. Cognate with Sanskrit अर्ध (ardhá, half; halved), ऋधक् (ṛ́dhak, separately) and Younger Avestan 𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬜𐬀 (arəδa, side; half-).[1][2]
