Etymology
From earlier *ord-z-, with -z- by analogy with *bez-, *vъz- and *jьz-. Cognate with Sanskrit अर्ध (ardhá, “half; halved”), ऋधक् (ṛ́dhak, “separately”) and Younger Avestan 𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬜𐬀 (arəδa, “side; half-”).[1][2]
