From Proto-Indo-European *bʰuHeh₁t? (bhu̯ēt), from *bʰuH-, *-éh₁ti. Morphologically, *bvě,[3] aorist of zero-grade *bъ- (*bv-) + stative *-ěti.
Cognate with Old Prussian be, bēi, Ancient Greek φύω (phúō).
