Proto-Italic
Etymology
From the Proto-Indo-European pronominal root *i- and an uncertain second element, see reconstruction notes.
Reconstruction notes
Latin would phonetically suggest *iβei, but a comparison to Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hidʰá (“here”) would imply that the adverb was originally *iðei with the b from ubi (“where”), where *ð could regularly become Latin -b- due to a preceding u.
