Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *h₃r̥s-wó-s[1], from *h₃ér-o-s ~ *h₃ér-es-o-s (“elevation”)[2] (compare Ancient Greek ὄρος (óros, “mountain”)) + *-wós, from *h₃er- (“to rise”) + *-os.
