Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *lewH- (“to untie, set free, separate”). Related to *leusaną; outside of Germanic, related to Ancient Greek λύω (lúō), Latin luō (“expiate, pay”), Sanskrit लून (lūna, “sever, cut forth, destroy, annihilate”), and possibly Old Armenian լուծանեմ (lucanem) and Albanian lirë.
