Proto-Germanic
Etymology
Plausibly from Pre-Germanic *h₂(e)kʷrós: Proto-Indo-European *h₂ekʷ-, the same root which gave *h₂ékʷeh₂ (whence Germanic *ahwō), with the suffix *-rós.[1] Thus equivalent to *ahwō + *-raz.
