Proto-Finnic

Etymology

Probably *jäädäk + *-ttädäk. It is not known why the word has a short *-ä- as opposed to a long *-ää- (**jäättädäk) (compare *joodak *joottadak, *söödäk *sööttädäk, *saadak *saattadak); one possibility is that the word is an older derivative than those listed.

Verb

*jättädäk (stem *jättä-)

  1. to leave (something somewhere)
