In the controversial Nostratic hypothesis, this term is compared with Proto-Mongolic *möndele, Proto-Tungusic *mundukān. Whence also Mongolian молтогчин (moltogčin, “rabbit”) and Evenki мундука̄н (mundukān, “hare”).
