Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *lh₂ps-, from *leh₂p- (“to shine”). Cognate with Hittite [script needed] (lāpzi, “glows”), Ancient Greek λάμπω (lámpō, “to shine”) (whence English lamp), Old Prussian lopis (“flame”).[1]
