Reconstruction:Proto-Celtic/ɸroboudom

This Proto-Celtic entry contains reconstructed terms and roots. As such, the term(s) in this entry are not directly attested, but are hypothesized to have existed based on comparative evidence.

Proto-Celtic

Etymology

From *ɸro- + *boud-.[1] Likely also suffixed with verbal noun suffix *-om.

Noun

*ɸroboudom n

  1. warning

Reconstruction notes

The neuter o-stem ending (and gender) are not evident from that of the descendants alone; no traces of being neuter remain in Goidelic. However, neuter gender in Proto-Celtic may be inferred on typological grounds; prefixed verbal nouns derived from roots of strong verbs are generally neuter o-stems.
