From Proto-Celtic *talskos, from earlier *talkskos, from Proto-Indo-European *tl̥k-s-ḱos, from *telk- (to thrust, strike)[1]. Cognate with Proto-Slavic *telťi (to pound), Lithuanian tìlkti (to be tame).
