Reconstruction:Latin/pincio
Latin
Etymology
Origin uncertain. Possibly from a nasalized variant of *pīccāre (compare doublets French pincer and dialectal picher, pisser; also Italian pizzare), or perhaps a merger of Latin *punctiō (“puncture, sting”) and *pīccō (“strike, sting”).
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ˈpint͡sʲo/
Verb
*pīnciō (present infinitive *pīnciāre, perfect active *pīnciāvī, supine *pīnciātum); first conjugation (Proto-Italo-Western-Romance)
