First attested as reemssche plakken in 1427. Derived from oud (“old”) and Reemst, a toponym of unclear etymology. It is potentially derived from riem (“belt, strip”) or Proto-Germanic *hramas- (“garlic”) with collective suffix -t. The element oud was added to distinguish the settlement from Nieuw-Reemst.
