Noordwijk aan Zee
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as nordcha in 889. Derived from a compound of Old Dutch north (“north”) and go (“area, inhabited area”). The second element was gradually reinterpreted to Middle Dutch wyc (“village, settlement”). The element aan (“on”) zee (“sea”) was added later to distinguish the settlement from Noordwijk-Binnen.
