- (linguistics, history) The form of Middle Egyptian archaizingly used as a literary language after the vernacular language had changed into Late Egyptian, and later Demotic and Coptic.
Usage notes
Though this term has some currency, the equivalent French term égyptien de tradition is more commonly used by English-speaking Egyptologists.
