Mindoro
English
Cebuano
Etymology
Usually attributed by folk etymologies to the Spanish phrase mina de oro. However, there is little evidence of gold mining activities on the island. Furthermore, old Tagalog documents name the island "Minolo". Minolo may be related to minuro, an old Visayan term meaning "place of abundance", from duro, "abundance".
