Etymology
Potentially attested as post in 1388, attested with certainty as lutkepost in 1472. Calque of West Frisian Lytsepost, a compound of Old Frisian lītik (“small”) and post (“simple bridge, gangboard across a ditch”). The element luttel was added to distinguish the settlement from Buitenpost.
