- (Baarle-Nassau) First attested as den hove te loeven in 1333. Derived from Middle Dutch love (“lover, awning, shed”), a term cognate with Old Saxon lovia (“wooden platform”) and Old High German louba (“tents, huts made out of branches”). Compare Lobith and Loven.
- (Bergeijk) First attested as Lovern in 1838–1857. Derived from Middle Dutch love (“lover, awning, shed”), from Old Dutch *louva, from Proto-West Germanic *laubijā (“awning”), a term cognate with Old Saxon lovia (“wooden platform”) and Old High German louba (“tents, huts made out of branches”). Compare Lobith and Loven.
