Etymology
From Old High German līhzeihhan, from Proto-West Germanic *līkataikn. Originally equivalent to Leiche (“body”) + Zeichen (“mark”), remotivated as Leim (“glue”) + Zeichen (from the “gluing” of the wound). Cognate with Luxembourgish Läinzeechen, Dutch litteken.
