From Ottoman Turkish حیفا (Hayfa) and Arabic حَيْفَا (Ḥayfā), from Hebrew חיפה (Kheifa), from Classical Syriac ܟܐܦܐ (rock) presumably in reference to Mount Carmel, from Akkadian kāpu "rock".
