1. A linguistic marker for a number of West Germanic languages and dialects spoken in the former core of the Frankish Empire: Low Countries (the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg) and western Germany. Within these groups there are a number of well known languages and dialects, such as Dutch.

     Limburgs is the only East Franconian dialect spoken in the Netherlands. All other Franconian dialects in the Netherlands are West Franconian.
