Eemnes-Buiten
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as emnesse in 1269. Derived from a compound of the hydronym Eem and Middle Dutch nesse (“headland, spit”). The element buiten (“without”) refers to the village's location outside of the area protected by a former levee and was included to distinguish the settlement from Eemnes-Binnen.
