First attested as diramme around 1250. Likely a compound of Proto-Germanic *deura (wild animal, deer) and either Proto-Germanic *ambe (current, small river) or Middle Dutch hamme (alluvial land, grassland next to water). Compare Bathmen, Berkum, Besthmen, Fortmond, Giethmen, Helpman, Hertme, Ratum, Reutum, Thamen, Wachtum and Wijthmen.
