De Wopereis

Dutch

Etymology

First attested as wapenreyse in 1460. Etymology uncertain. A compound of Middle Dutch *wapen (stagnant water, swamp) and reis (elevated place) is unlikely because of a lack of attestations of the components. Compare Wapenveld.
