Catsop
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as catsop in 1361. Etymology uncertain. The element -op appears to refer to an elevated location. One etymology proposes a derivation from a compound of a first element cognate to Limburgish kaatsj (“slime, dreck”) and Old Dutch *apa (“river, stream”); however, it is unclear which body of water this hypothetical compound would refer to.
