Anglicization of Italian Boiardi, a phonetic respelling of the Italian pronunciation. Coined by Ettore Boiardi, when he anglicized and legally changed his name to Hector Boyardee, in the early 20th-century, and named his company and brand Boyardee and Chef Boy-Ar-Dee.
