Bemmel
Dutch
Etymology
Potentially attested as benmele in 1178, attested with certainty as in bemela in 1189. Etymology unclear. Potentially of non-Germanic origins. A proposed derivation from a compound of beemd (“pasture, field”) and lo (“light forest”) clashes with the oldest attestations.
