Ultimately from a lost common noun (vila, agro, castro, busto vel sim) and the name of a 5th-10th centuries landowner, Late Latin Ansilani, improper or late genitive of Ansila; from a Suevic and/or Gothic personal name, from Proto-Germanic *Ansilô, from *ansuz (“deity”) and the diminutive personal suffix *-ilan-.[1][2]
