Angeren

Dutch

Etymology

First attested as angrina in the beginning of the 9th century. Likely derived from Old Dutch angar (grassland, pasture). A proposed derivation from a toponym Proto-Germanic *Anghrinâ, which appears the be the source of Old Norse angr (narrow bend), is formally correct but far-fetched. Compare Angerlo.
