From Proto-West Germanic *Audamār or *Aþalamār, from either Proto-Germanic *audaz (wealth, riches) or *aþalaz (noble) (the two roots were sometimes conflated) and *mēraz (fame). See also French Omer and English Elmer and Aylmer. Cognate to French Adémar, Adhémar, Azémar.
