From Proto-West Germanic *Audamār or *Aþalamār, from either Proto-Germanic *audaz (“wealth, riches”) or *aþalaz (“noble”) (the two roots were sometimes conflated) and *mēraz (“fame”). See also French Omer and English Elmer and Aylmer. Cognate to French Adémar, Adhémar, Azémar.
