Etymology

The first consonant y presumably derives from the final (weak) radical j of a fourth weak verb in contact with the suffix -w, which forms the second consonant of -yw.

Suffix

Forms the negatival complement of fourth weak verbs.

Usage notes

The ordinary ending -w for the negatival complement is also used with fourth weak verbs.
