Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *-(e)ro-. Compare երկ-ար (erk-ar) from Proto-Indo-European *dweh₂rós (“long”). See also -իր (-ir), -որ (-or), -ուր (-ur).

    ‎զարդ (zard, “ornament, embellishment”) + ‎-ար (-ar) → ‎զարդարեմ (zardarem, “to adorn”)
    ‎մեծ (mec, “great”) + ‎-ար (-ar) → ‎մեծարեմ (mecarem, “to honor, venerate”)
    ‎արդ (ard, “shape, order”) + ‎-ար (-ar) → ‎արդար (ardar, “just”)
    ‎մութ (mutʻ, “dark”) + ‎-ար (-ar) → ‎մթար (mtʻar, “black, smutty”)
